Shivani G., Margaret Bapitha G.

Abstract

Siddha, ultimately is a way of living that teaches and aids a soul in reaching its goal. This system of Science has strong foundations based on the four pillars; Vaatham, Vaithyam, Yogam and Gnanam laid down by Siddhars. Siddha Vaithyam deals with diagnosis, prevention and treatment of all diseases. The Siddha system of medicine has proved its significance in treating deadly diseases of present day such as HIV, Hepatitis – B, Diabetes and Obesity. The disease that shakes the normal life of majority of the world population is depression. Depression is a diseased condition which shows manifestations on both physical and psychological states of a being. It is a non – communicable disease that doesn’t spread from person to person. This condition sounds to be simple and common among people but it scoops away a huge part of happiness in one’s life. Siddhars have already dealt with medical practices that provide a permanent solution to depression. These practices are explained in detail in texts like Agathiyar Kanagamani Nooru, Theraiyar Vaagadam, Yugi Chinthamani 800. This paper brushes up the basic ways in dealing with depression through Siddha system.
