Effect of balancing asanas on Attention

Abstract


This study investigated whether practicing a balancing asana and physical exercise intervention influenced sustained attention, performance skill, and memory function in college students with attention deficit. Sixty participants (mean age = 19 years) were assigned to practicing yoga asana group and physical exercise group. Participants were given the Six Letter Cancellation Test (SLCT), Digit Letter Substitution Task (DLST) and Spatial memory test prior to and after 30 days of intervention. Significant improvements in SLCT, DLST, and Spatial memory test were observed over time in the balancing yogasana group compared with the physical exercise practicing group. These findings suggest that balancing yogasana practices can be effective in college students with attention, performance skill, and attention deficit problems.
