Review on Neem Bark: A Unani Medicine

Abstract


Neem is a medicinal plant found in almost every region of India recognized for its medicinal and therapeutic uses. Although all parts of this plant possess medicinal value, the neem bark has been widely used by the Unani physicians to treat various ailments especially for wound healing, dental problems and infectious diseases. In phytochemical analysis various biologically active substances have been isolated showing its medicinal importance. Also in animal studies it has been found active against various organisms, showed antioxidants property, etc. In this review an effort has been made to explore the uses of neem bark mentioned in Unani literature as well as its phytochemical and pharmacological properties.
