Emotional Intelligence related to Interpersonal relationship and Mental Health among Nursing students

Abstract


Emotional Intelligence refers to experiencing one’s self in a conscious manner. Emotional Intelligence is the ability to perceive, express, understand, motivate, control and regulate emotion. Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to recognize one's own and other people's emotions, to discriminate between different feelings and label them appropriately, and to use emotional information to guide thinking and behaviour and making Interpersonal Relationship. The objective of the study was to assess the emotional intelligence related to IPR and mental health among nursing students. The total population of 172 students were taken as a sample size. Ethical issues in research were taken in consideration. The data was collected by using Modified Emotional intelligence scale, Modified IPR scale and Modified Mental health 5 point likert scale. The results of the study revealed that Majority of students 154(89%) had moderate level of Emotional Intelligence and only 18(10.5%) had high level of Emotional Intelligence. Nearly all of the students 171(99.4%) had average level of Interpersonal Relationship and only 1(0.6%) had poor level of Interpersonal Relationship and more than half of students 96(55.8%) had average level of Mental Health and 76 (44.2%) had good Mental Health. It was concluded that majority of students had moderate level of Emotional Intelligence, average Interpersonal Relationship and mental Health.
