Gyanendra kumar Gupta, Gagan Devi

Abstract

Welcome to the world of Ayurveda. In the present era, everybody is looking towards Ayurveda for health care. Besides the medicine, we are having one special principle which other pathies are lacking that is, Swasthasya Swasthya Rakshanam. ‘Swasthya’ is a state when an individual is at a state of equilibrium of three doshas, normal functioning of the thirteen agnis (digestion and metabolism), the dhatus and malas and he/she is in the state of sensorial, mental, emotional, and spiritual well being—finally a clear and bright state of mind, body, and soul. Doshas, dhatus, malas, srotus, agni and prakriti etc are basic fundamentals of our classical science. Prakriti is the health profile or unique psychosomatic temperament of an individual encompassing his or her physical, functional, and behavioural characteristics. Prakriti pareekshana is the main part of chikitsa. Moto of Ayurveda is to maintain dhatu sāmya in purusa and to obtain this, it is compulsory to know Deha and Manasbhāva. By the knowledge of Prakriti, we can maintain the healthy status of the individual via establishing dhatu sāmya and that also help in treatment. Knowing one’s Prakriti holds the key to health, liberation and ultimately self-realization. Therefore, in the present article, a conceptual study of Prakriti with special reference to classification was explained.
