Obtaining Balanced Occlusion with Monoplane Teeth Using Balancing Ramp- A Case Report

Abstract


Lateral or tipping forces produce unfavorable forces affecting denture stability and have ill effect on structures comprising the denture foundation area. Denture occlusion differs from natural organic occlusion in order to compensate for the lack of retention, stability and support when compared with natural dentition. Bilateral balance occlusion decreases the transmission of lateral tipping forces. Monoplane occlusion further attempts to decrease the tipping forces by reducing the effect of incline plane effect and the contact between the maxillary and mandibular denture. Bilateral balanced occlusion is obtained by using balancing ramps when monoplane teeth are used.
