Allergies to Materials used in Orthodontics
Abstract
In orthodontics allergy from alloys, particularly nickel, has been broadly studied and a number of other case reports of nickel-induced contact dermatitis have been reported. The evidence suggests that the foremost common allergy reported in orthodontics is said to be nickel in orthodontic appliances and allergic response is more commonly seen in women due to a previous exposure from nickel in jewelry. During the course of orthodontic treatment it has been found that the hypo-dontia is the main risk factor for occurrence of root resorption. The aim of this review article is to discuss the association and implications of allergy in orthodontics.
