Mouthwashes and Their Use in Different Oral Conditions

Nitin. S. Gosavi, Sachin R. Gosavi

Abstract

Mouthwash is a medicinal solution used for wrapping and washing the mouth. Many oral conditions require the use of mouthwash, which can range from oral contraceptives to periodontal disease to the treatment of secondary diseases such as oral mucositis. Oral bath may be recommended as an antimicrobial, topical anti-inflammatory agent, topical analgesic or prevention of caries. Many different mouthwashes are available now a day. The choice of the appropriate mouthwash depends on the patient's oral condition, risk of infection and the effectiveness and safety of the mouthwash. The main purpose of this review is to help oral health professionals choose the right mouthwash while working different conditions of the oral cavity.
