Prospective Study to Assess the Association between Age and Incidence of Dentinal Hypersensitivity

Abstract


Objectives:To study the incidence of dentinal hypersensitivity among individuals of different age groups, to ascertain the commonly affected region in the dentition and to conclude with the determined etiology.Methods: 100 individuals of different ages were categorized accordingly and were thoroughly examined with respect to the subject.Results:Maximum incidence was found among individuals under the age group of 31–35 years, with common involvement of buccal aspect of the cervical area of premolars.Conclusion:There is an increase in the incidence of dentinal hypersensitivity in young individuals, which needs to be countered with the help of adequate knowledge about probable causes and improved oral hygiene practices.
