Abstract

Breast feeding plays a significant role in infant’s growth and development by serving many immunological, physiological and psychological health benefits. 200 mothers were included in the study and data were collected through pre-tested semi-structured questionnaire. Results show that the majority of mothers were aware of the importance of breastfeeding and colostrum feeding. Majority of mothers fed colostrum to their neonates but not initiated breastfeeding within 1 h. Very few mothers exclusively breastfed their infants for 6 months. The present study concludes that mothers can be intervened about good breastfeeding practices during their antenatal checkups.
