Abstract

Iron deficiency anemia was considered to be among the most important contributing factors to the global burden of disease. Iron deficiency anaemia is very common in pregnancy. The iron deficiency may originate during pregnancy or exist prior to pregnancy. The investigator during her field experience found many women suffering from anaemia, without any knowledge regarding anemia. The investigator has also had many experiences of those women who are working in the Industries and do not have enough time to concentrate on their diet, hence suffering from anemia. It was a descriptive and evaluative approach with quasi-experimental one group pre-test and post-test research design. The study was conducted at Texport Industries private limited, Yeshwantpur Industrial Suburb, Bangalore. The target population was 40 industrial women selected with simple random sampling technique. The instrument for data collection was Demographic variables and 34 structured knowledge questionnaire. The findings of the study revealed that the mean post-test knowledge score is significantly higher than the mean pre- test knowledge score ie 85.2% (post-test), 35.1% (pre-test) with ‘t’ value 23.65  is significantly higher than the table value  t (p=0.05, df=39) = 1.96. In pre-test there was significant association between the findings of knowledge with demographic variables such as age, age at marriage, marital status, residential area, monthly income. Similarly, in post-test there is association between marital status, residential area and food habit with sociodemographic variables which is estimated by chi-square (χ2) test.  The study concluded that the PTP on prevention of iron deficiency anemia during pregnancy is effective for industrial women.
