Ethnomedicinal Plants Used in the Treatment of Asthma by Indigenous People of Ranchi District of Jharkhand

Abstract


This paper enumerates the traditional uses of 10 plant species belonging to few genera representing nine families, which are used by the village communities of Oraon, Munda, Mahato, Santhal, Birhor and Sadri of Ranchi district of Jharkhand for the treatment of asthma. Asthma is a condition of attacks, difficult breathing and breathlessness due to the contraction of air tubes and accumulation of mucus. It is a fatal disease that affects the whole body of humans. The disorder of lung affects faster heartbeat that gradually damages the heart, increases blood pressure level, hoarse voice, as well as weakness in the body. Excessive intake of steroids as an inhaler or tablets in this disease also produces a number of side effects. For reducing its side effects, some extracts of plant products are taken as herbal medicine as a gift of God. The studies have been conducted by extensive survey of the area from September 2016 to December 2017 during different time intervals.
