Abstract

The novel coronavirus infection, more commonly referred to as COVID-19, the number of people who have died from the coronavirus has now risen to over 1.34 million. Currently there are no approved pharmacological treatments or preventative therapeutic strategies in place to battle the infection. However, globally, research is on-going with the aim to discover effective COVID-19 treatments. The logic behind some of these interventional trials is summarised in this article. As patients are participating in clinical trials in the UK, as part of this analysis, some of the safety and practical concerns for the investigational drugs that pharmacists are most likely to experience in practise are addressed.
