Abstract

Aims: We aimed to find out the local effect and acting time of Pedicellus melon on the nasal mucosa of rabbit and to evaluate the effect of Pedicellus melon for chronic rhinitis and allergic rhinitis after establishing therapeutic method. Material and Methods: The material is powder which is made from unripped-stalk of cucumis melon harvested on July. We analyzed concha nasal mucous of rabbits and rats treated with powder of pedicellus melon pathophysiologically, and success-rate of treatment with powder of pedicellus melon in patients with chronic rhinitis and allergic rhinitis. Objectives: We studied 100 patients with chronic rhinitis and 100 with allergic rhinitis, 15 rabbits above 1.5 Kg in weight and 90 rats above 100g in weight. Results: Pedicellus melon which is absorbed locally causes dystrophic degeneration and necrosis of the nasal mucosa and time with maximum-effect is in 8~10 hours. The success rate of treatment in patients with chronic rhinitis and allergic rhinitis was 80%. Conclusion: Pedicellus melon which is absorbed locally causes dystrophic degeneration and necrosis of the nasal mucosa and time with maximum-effect is in 8~10 hours. 2. The success rate of treatment for chronic rhinitis and allergic rhinitis was 80%.
