Giant Right Groin Leiomyoma Mimicking Inguinal/Femoral Hernia - Case Report

Abstract

Groin leiomyoma is a rare condition. Such presentation may lead to misinterpretation of inguinal or femoral hernia diagnosis. In case of incorrect diagnosis, there is a high risk for the development of intraoperative complications. Here we report a female patient who presented with a huge soft elastic sessile swelling of 20x25 cm size in the right groin region. The patient clinically had a total history of 9 yrs. Examination revealed a tumor falling in right and partly left the inguinal, suprapubic, upper part of the thigh and right labia region. Non-reducible, no impulse on coughing was found. CECT abdomen and FNAC correctly diagnosed leiomyoma, which was intraoperatively confirmed. Lipoma in the groin may be erroneously treated as inguinal/femoral hernia until unless correctly diagnosed by USG, CT or MRI scan.
