Review of Oral Propranolol Therapy for Infantile Hemangioma

Abstract

Infantile hemangioma, or called as strawberry hemangioma, is the most common vascular tumor in infancy. Although most will resolve, the rest of IHs are significantly worrisome; some can ulcerate or even grow at an unpredictable rate, which leads to disfigurement and dysfunctional body parts. The treatment should be focused on prevention of life-threatening complications, prevention of permanent scarring, and avoidance of aggressive treatments; these are the goals of management. This review article is made to increase the awareness of using oral propranolol as a choice of nonsurgical therapy, especially for countries where surgery is not an option.
