A Comparative Clinical Evaluation of Snigdha Guna of Shatavari and Yashtimadhu with Special Reference to Twak Rukshata

Abstract

Context: Ayurveda is not simply a knowledge related to herbs, but the concept is like “Lock & Key mechanism”. To have a pinpointed activity one should have deep knowledge of such concepts. These concepts are expressed in the form of Rasa, Guna, Veerya, etc. Among those, Gunas are important for function of any action. Hence, this research work has been carried out to study deep assessment of Gunas in drugs Yastimadhu and Shatavari. Aim: Comparative evaluation of Snigdha Guna effect of Shatavari and Yashtimadhu in compared to Ghrita on common affecting factor Twak Rukshata. Methods and Material: Priorly, Prakruti analysis surveys were carried out and 48 volunteers having Vata predominance Prakruti were enrolled in three groups, i.e., Group A: Standard (Ghrita), Group B: Trial (Shatavari Churna), and Group C: Trial (Yashtimadhu Churna). Assessment of result done after 28 days, by the help of Grading Analogue Scale (GAS), statically analysed by ‘Student t-test’, ‘One way ANOVA’. Results: Overall effect in all three groups in relieving symptoms on 31 parameters out of 36 parameters showed result i.e., 36.11, 19.32 and 28.52% in Group A, Group B and Group C respectively. Conclusion: Clinically, Yashtimadhu shows more Snigdha Guna effect compared to Shatavari.
