An Observational Clinical Study to Evaluate the Efficacy of Lekhaneeya Mahakashaya Yogabasti in the Management of Sthoulya

Obesity is defined as an abnormal or excessive accumulation of fat that pose a risk to health. Obesity has increased at an alarming rate in recent years and has become one of the major health hazards globally. It is considered as a lifestyle disorder in which a complex interplay of genetic, environmental and psychological factors play a major role, especially primary obesity wherein no obvious cause exists other than an imbalance in energy intake and expenditure. As per the latest statistics of WHO (March 2011) there are 1.6 Billion adults who are overweight (BMI>25) and more than 400 million people who are obese (BMI >30).This study is an attempt is made to evaluate the efficacy of lekhaneeya mahakashaya yoga basti in the management of Sthoulya, present study was conducted on 30 patients with Lekhaneeya Mahakashaya yogabasti and Lekhaneeya gana kashaya orally 15 ml, three times a day before food with equal quantity of water for 30 days. In the present study results obtained with respect to all the parameters were statistically highly significant with ‘p’ value of 0.000. Out of 30 patients, 20 (66.7%) got moderate relief and 9 (30%) got marked relief from the parameters considered for the study.
