Concept of Free Radical Theory in Ayurveda

A free radical can be defined as any molecular species capable of independent existence that contains an unpaired electron in an atomic orbital. Free radical is produced as an intermediate product during metabolism of fat, carbohydrates and protein in body. Free radicals are known to attack the structure of cell membranes which then create metabolic waste products. Free radicals are capable of damaging biological entities (due to their unstable and highly reactive nature) like DNA, proteins, carbohydrate and lipids, which leads to cell damage and disturbed Homeostasis. Aama is fundamental internal source, which initiates disease. Free radical stimulates production of aama. Free radical simulates aama in its nature of production, nature of producing diseases and its consequences.
