Beejdushti: A Conceptual Study
Abstract
The appreciation of genetic factors as arbiters of human disease is a relatively recent development in medical history. Scattered references to inheritance of biological characteristics may be found in the records of several millennia. In which comes the Ayurvedic texts. In Ayurvedic texts the genetic concept of inheritance is beautifully described in Caraka Sharir Sthan. Although Other Authors also described in direct or indirect way the genetic basis of inheritance like Sushruta and Vagbhatta etc. But the description of Caraka is very clear and concise. The whole modern concept of inheritance can be drawn out of the very concise description of Ayurvedic text. To understand the present day hereditary disorders especially concerned with infertility and defective progeny in Ayurvedic light an attempt has been made in present paper.
