Training Need Assessment of Nurses in Intensive Care Units at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar

Abstract


In order to evaluate the needs of nursing officers posted in ICUs, related to training, a study was
conducted among the nurses posted in ICUs. Census method was used for the study. Forty-four
questions were distributed among eighty-eight nursing officers, which were documented to be of
importance in patient care from a nursing perspective. The mean average of topics was 25. The
maximum number of training sessions received by staff was found to be 35 and the minimum number
of training sessions received by nurses was found to be 15. Hand washing and appropriate use of
personal protective equipment received the highest score of 75 (85%) in training need assessment and
crisis management scored the lowest of 26 (30%). The study highlighted the importance of training
need assessment which could help the institute in planning the training programmes.
