Abstract

Background & Objectives: The study's objective is to evaluate the impact of STP on adults' understanding of the harmful effects of smoking at PDM University in Bahadurgarh, Haryana. Materials & Methods: The current study used a quasi-experimental research design as its approach. With 40 individuals total—20 for the experimental group and 20 for the control group—the study utilized a purposive sampling  approach in order to select its sample. Sociodemographic characteristics and pre- and posttest questionnaires were used to accumulate data. Results: The questionnaire score in the experimental group has a mean and standard deviation of 11.55 and 2.625, according to the study's findings. However, in the posttest, the mean &  S.D. value is 19.45 & 4.394. Significant results are obtained with a Df value of 19 and a t value of 12.182. Pre-test value for the control group had a mean and standard deviation of 11.00 and 3.494. However, the mean and standard deviation values for the posttest are 12.15 and 3.199. Significant results are obtained with a Df value of 19 and a t value of 4.524. As a result, STP was successful in raising adults' awareness of the harmful consequences of smoking. There was a statistically significant correlation between the sample's pre- and post-test knowledge level and socio-demographic factors like residency, among others. Conclusion: The study found that the STP had a positive impact on individuals' understanding of the harmful effects of smoking.
