Assessing the Level of Resilience among Selected Nursing Students at College of Nursing, Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research, Dimapur, Nagaland
Abstract
Resilience is referred to the ability to recover and bounce back quickly from an uncomfortable, difficult or challenging situation. Resilience helps to overcome challenges and move forward despite the failure an individual faces in their personal, social and professional lives. It is very crucial to prepare a student nurse to have a high resilience so that when they become a staff they can handle responsibilities with greater accountability and stable mind. The study aims to assess the level of resilience among selected nursing students, and also determine the association with selected demographic variables for the level of resilience. A total of 66 selected nursing students from B.sc and GNM Nursing Program were enrolled in the study. The study reveals that majority of the selected nursing students had normal resilience. It also revealed that there is a high significant association between the levels of resilience with the selected demographic variables. The study revealed that none of the students had high resilience. It is very important that nursing students identify their level of resilience and gain insight of their preferred coping strategies to the stress so that they can use those strategies to balance their professional as well as personal life. Thus, nurse educators should be aware of their possibility to strengthen the student’s maturation process toward a readiness to care, by educating the student nurse’s with the ability to take care both of themselves and their patient’s.
