Effect of Participatory Eye Care by Amelioration in Reducing Digital Eye Strain Among Computer Users in GNSU

Shweta Kumari

Abstract

The prevalence of ocular complaints has grown along with the use of electronic devices in the twenty-first century of digital communication. Regular practice of eye exercise like integrated eye-neck exercises are found to be useful in relieving the eye discomfort and also improving the visual acuity. This study is to assess the effect of participatory eye care by amelioration in reducing digital eye strain among computer users in Gopal Narayan Singh University (GNSU). The objectives of the study are to measure prevalence of digital eye strain before and after participatory eye care program among computer users in GNSU. To compare the pre and post level of digital eye strain before and after participatory eye care program among computer users in GNSU. To test the association between the post-test level of digital eye strain with the selected demographic variables of computer users in GNSU. It was done using the pre-experimental one group pre-test post-test method. Purposive sampling was used to choose 30 samples in total. Data were gathered using the self-administered semi-structured eye discomfort scale. The findings of the study revealed that level of digital eye strain of computer users were high compared at 0.05 level of significance. The computer users had significant reduction in digital eye strain score after participatory eye care program in the experimental group, t=13.214 (p=.0001). The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the efficacy of a participatory eye care programme for computer users who frequently experience digital eye strain. The study's findings showed that after offering a participatory eye care programme, the prevalence and symptoms of digital eye strain significantly improved. According to the statistical results, it was clear that offering this type of participatory eye care programme will lower the level of eye discomfort among computer users. An effective nursing intervention for easing eye discomfort in computer users is a participatory eye care programme.
