Nursing Theories–Applications

Purohit Saraswati, Nagendra Swamy C.

Abstract

Nursing theories play a pivotal role in guiding nursing practice, education, research, and professional development. This abstract presents a comprehensive understanding of the core principles and importance of nursing theories within the healthcare field. It explores their historical evolution, key theorists, and the essential components that make up these theoretical frameworks. The relevance of nursing theories in various healthcare settings, including clinical practice, education, and leadership, is also highlighted. It begins by tracing the historical development of nursing theories, starting with Florence Nightingale's pioneering work in the mid-19th century and subsequently exploring the emergence of various theoretical schools throughout the 20th century. These include the works of Hildegard Peplau, Virginia Henderson, Dorothea Orem, Imogene King, and others, who laid the groundwork for modern nursing theories.
