Abstract
Background: Oral health is an integral component of general health. Oral health has also been found profoundly influence the quality of life. Dental hygiene is the practice of keeping one' mouth clean and free of disease and other oral problems. Aim: A study to evaluate the impact of structured teaching programme on the knowledge of school going children at Sri Goindwal Sahib. Materials & methods: A non-randomized experimental control group research design was used to select sample size of 60 by using non-probability convenient sampling technique. Self-structured knowledge questionnaire tool was used. Results and conclusion: It can be seen from the result that overall mean knowledge score of pre-test experimental and control group was 12.52 with SD 1.77 and 12.6 with SD 2.51 respectively posttest in experimental and control group was 19.14 with SD 2.46 and 13.62 with SD 2.82 respectively. The data subjected for statistical paired t test showed a highly significant difference (p<0.05) existing between pre-test and post-test over a mean knowledge score (t=12.04) and education status of children had great impact on knowledge score i.e. found to be 13.01 at 0.05 level. Recommendations: Comparative study can be undertaken on large sample for better generalization.
