Introduction: With drastic changes in life-style, dietetic habits, increased industrialization, and pollution; global population of 21st century is being affected with various kinds of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)/Life Style Diseases (LSDs), thereby posing a leading threat to human health. Among such NCDs, Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is an important entity and India leads the world with largest number of diabetics, earning the dubious distinction of the Diabetic Capital of the World. Nevertheless, choosing intelligent lifestyle, one may cope up with such an ebbing crisis, rewarding oneself with healthfulness. Aim To assess the contribution of Aahar (Diet), Vihar (lifestyle), demographic profile, in manifestation of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Material and Methods: A cross-sectional survey study was conducted on randomly selected 100 diabetic patients from OPD of All India Institute of Ayurveda. An aetiology-based survey questionnaire was prepared based on classics to assess the dietary and habitual lifestyle of these people and its contribution in commencing the disease. Observations and Conclusion: It is very well evident from the survey that faulty dietary habits and sedentary lifestyle embellish the disease manifestation. For instance, 55% of population under study depicted: Intake of products made of ikshu, guda (sugar, jaggery), 48% were in a habit of divasvapnam (day sleeping), 40% were stressed etc. Easy contrivance of such conducts and interlacing prudent lifestyle choices will definitely pave the way concerning prevention and management of DM. Hence one may infer "sanksheptah kriya yoge nidan parivarjanam” holds true, thereby illuminating the fact so as to obliterate causative factors to remain disease free.
