Abstract

To give birth is the most heartfelt initiation to spirituality a woman can experience. However sometimes due to various causes gestation is not continued till term which is very agonizing for a couple. Habitual Abortion (or recurrent abortion) refers to a history of repeated miscarriage, which is defined as three or more succeeding pregnancy losses before 20 weeks of pregnancy from the last menstrual period. Repeated miscarriage/Pregnancy loss is often seen with bleeding per vaginum. This repeated miscarriage is the most common problem being observed presently. One of the potential causes of recurrent miscarriages is thought to be the TORCH infection. Systemic illnesses, such as syphilis in mothers, diabetes mellitus, chronic nephritis, essential hypertension, and Rh-incompatibility, hormonal disturbance, cervical incompetence, uterine developmental abnormalities, or immunological reasons are some more potential causes. It can be correlated with Putraghni yoni vyapada as per Ayurvedic texts. Putraghni yonivyapada is a state in which repeated pregnancy loss occurs. It is a condition with wide number of underlying reasons. According to Aacharya Charaka, when the exaggerated Vata because of its Ruksha guna destroys each and every foetus made out of the polluted ovum, the condition is known as Putraghni. Putraghni yonivyapada is one among the 20 Yonivyapadas. Considering description from Ayurvedic classics collectively probable causes of Yonivyapada include Mithyaachara, Pradushta artav, Bija dosha and Daiva karma. In the present study, a case of repeated pregnancy loss due to TORCH Infection which was treated successfully with Ayurveda is discussed. AIMS AND OBJECTIVE: To assess the effect of Samshodhana followed by Ayurvedic medicines in the management of habitual abortion w.s.r to Putraghni yoni vyapada. In the present Case Report, considering the Vata and Pitta dosha and Kshetra dushti i.e. altered receptivity of uterus, a patient with repeated pregnancy loss was successfully treated with Samshodhana (Bio-purificatory methods) in her pre-conception period followed by Samshamana chikitsa during entire Ante-natal Period.
