A Randomized Controlled Open Clinical Study to Evaluate the Efficacy of Nagara Ksheera Nasya in the Management of Ardhavabhedaka with Special Reference to Migraine

Background: One of the 11 forms of Shiro-Roga is called Ardhavabhedaka, and symptomatically similar to Migraine, which is a neurovascular disorder. Panchakarma procedures and many formulations are described in Ayurveda for the management of Ardhavabhedaka. Since Acharya Chakradatta described Nagara-Ksheera Nasya Karma in the context of Shiro-Roga- Chikitsa, an An effort has been made to assess the efficacy of using it for the management of Ardhavabhedaka. Objective Assess the effectiveness of Nagara-Ksheera Nasya as a treatment method for Ardhavabhedaka (Migraine). Materials & Methods: With approval from the Institutional Ethics The study enrolled 40 patients who exhibited clinical symptoms of the condition under investigation of migraine and between the age group of 20 to 50 years irrespective to gender and randomly The patients were divided into two groups of 20 each, labeled Group-A and Group-B. Group-A received the treatment with Nagara Ksheera Nasya (which completed in 3-sittings, each sitting includes 7-days with 7-days interval in between the sittings) and Group-B was treated with control drug (Valproic acid tablets; in the dose of 06-20 mg/kg of body weight, after meal for 42 days), for the estimation of therapy and analyzed effect of Nagara-Ksheera Nasya. The treatment lasted for 42 days in total, which included a 30-day follow- up period. Results: Group A had a better overall impact than Group B. In Group A, 35.29% of patients showed a strong improvement, 41.17% showed a moderate improvement, and 23.52% showed a mild improvement. Conclusion: Nagara-Ksheera Nasya has been shows better results than control drug on almost all the symptoms of migraine, thus it is highly effective in the management of the Ardhavabhedaka w.s.r. to Migraine.
