Potential Role of Blood, Platelet-rich Plasma and Fibrin Concentrates in Regenerative Endodontics
Abstract
This article will review the new concept of regenerative endodontics in salvaging immature permanent teeth. The potential role of blood and platelet concentrates – platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin in regeneration protocol will be discussed. MEDLINE and EMBASE computer databases were searched up to June 2011 using the following keywords – immature teeth, dental stem cells, growth factors, regenerative endodontics and platelet concentrates. It appears that stem cells, growth factors, scaffolds in form of blood clot and platelet concentrates have the potential for continued cell division and regeneration to replace dental tissues lost through trauma or disease.
Keywords: Regenerative endodontics, immature teeth, platelet-rich plasma, platelet-rich fibrin
