An eruption cyst is an odontogenic cyst and clinically visible as a circumscribed, fluctuant, often translucent swelling of the alveolar ridge over the site of the erupting tooth. It is termed as eruption hematoma when the cystic cavity is filled with blood as inflicted by trauma or infection and appears as purple or deep blue, seeing that the anxious parents of children approach the dentist suspecting it to be a tumor. Usually the cyst resolves on its own as the tooth erupts into the oral cavity but larger cysts require surgical intervention.
