Is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) a Boon for Implant? – A Case Report

Abstract

Implant placement has been a constant challenge in the field of dentistry. The success of implants has been attributed to their firm bone anchorage, referred to as osseo-integration or functional ankylosis. Osseointegration has been defined as a direct structural connection at the light microscopic level between bone and the surface of load carrying implant. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is autologous platelet gel, plasma-rich growth factors (PRGFs), or mere autologous platelet concentrate. The use of PRP has been suggested in order to increase the rate of bone deposition when the sites are augmented prior to or in conjugation with the dental implant placement. This case report demonstrates two-stage surgical protocol of placement of Adin implant with the length of 11.5 mm and a diameter of 4.2 mm in the region of missing 21. The technique involves using implant drills followed by placing PRP with bone graft and immediate implant placement.
