Systemic Ailment of Oral Focal Sepsis: A Review

Abstract

There are so many etiologies which cause diseases in many parts of the body. One of the most important etiologies is focal sepsis in the oral cavity which can cause a variety of systemic diseases. There are many epidemiological studies which have linked poor oral health with cardiovascular disease, poor glycemic control, low birth-weight pre-term babies and a number of other conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, respiratory diseases and osteoporosis. This article focuses on the role of good oral health and the risks associated with poor oral health.
