Ayurveda Approach to Primary Snoring through Panchakarma—A Case Study
Abstract
Purpose: Snoring is vibratory noise generated from the pharynx and soft palate as the air passes through this narrowed space. Further narrowing produces louder snoring, laboured inspiration and eventually apnoeic episodes. Social consequences are the usual reason for the patient to seek help. They can be distressing, banishment from the bedroom, marital disharmony, no holidays, fear of travelling, or falling asleep in a public place etc. Method: This is a single case study of 28 years old married male patient visited the OPD of Panchakarma Department, NIA, Jaipur, India with complaints of snoring for past three months. The patient was treated on the line of management of Urdwajatrugata Vikara. Gandush and Nasya are indicated for Urdwajatrugata Vikara in Ayurveda. Tila Taila Gandush (Sneha) and Nasya with Anu Taila were prescribed to the patient. Result: Gandush and Nasya Karma showed remarkable symptomatic relief in snoring sound. Snoring was effectively managed, and patient’s quality of life was improved. Conclusion: Gandush and Nasya Karma are cost effective and short time procedures. The results need to be studied in more number of populations for better assessment.
