Conceptual Study on Kukkutanda Pinda Sweda: A Review Article
Abstract
Swedana is a procedure that is most commonly used as Poorva-Karma (pre-operative) before any Panchakarma therapy. Swedana relieves from stiffness, heaviness, and coldness in the body. After Swedana, the body starts sweating and gives the feeling of lightness in the body. It can be performed by various methods. Pinda Sweda is based on the principle of Sankara Sweda. In this procedure, the materials are tied in a cloth and used for Swedana. The prepared Pottali is used for Swedana on the body by frequently heating it, and this is done after the Abhyanga procedure. The present study aims to review the procedure of Kukkutanda Pinda Sweda through study of various Ayurvedic and modern literatures, published research papers, and textbooks. It does the triple action of Snehana, Swedana and Brimhana. The Snigdha Pinda Swedana is usually done in Ardita, Greevastambha, Hanugraha, Avabahuka, atrophy, muscular disorders around the vertebral region and traumatic disorders.
