Abstract

This study focuses on rural women with disability, who are facing issues in the society with reference to education, health, livelihood, social inclusion and empowerment. The study was conducted in drought prone area were the above problems become multiple, Ashirwad Trust for the disabled provides CBR (Community-based rehabilitation) training to disabled person. WHO CBR (Community-based rehabilitation) matrix was modified for assessing education, health, livelihood, social inclusion and empowerment of the rural women with disability who participated in the CBR training program in Sayla, Gujarat. The outcome of the study highlights that rural women with disability are trainable when they develop confidence, collaboration, character, competence, which developed through family support, social support and community support. With their acceptance by the society, they developed a vision of their worth in the society which motivated them to become economically independent and found their position in home, society and community. They became a trainer of the trainee of the CBR program for the disabled. From this study, it can be concluded that with the help of the training, the rural women with disability converted their issues into opportunity. To bring in the change in the status of the rural women with the disability, there is a strong requirement of a professional social worker, as a consultant of the CBR program for the disabled.
