Diet and life style choices are major factors contributing to the risk of CAD which is responsible for more deaths in the whole world. It is well known that the modification on lipid concentration is a useful approach to decrease CAD mortality. Soybean contains lean vegetable protein, fibre and bioactive substance—Isoflavone. So it has got attention as cardio protective substance. Isoflavones may have lipid independent coronary benefits, such as enhancing vascular reactivity. The study was undertaken to investigate the therapeutic effect of two months oral administration of Soya bean 20 g/day intervention on lipid profile of 40 to 60 years female undergoing coronary intervention. The subjects were divided into two groups, a control group and an experimental group. The baseline questionnaire requested information about the demographic profile lipid profile of the subject were estimated with pre and post effect (20 g soybean/day) by using standard analytic techniques. In the experimental group, pre interventional mean value of total cholesterol, HDL, Triglyceride, VLDL, LDL are 215±47.1., 41.8±9.7, 161±62.4, 29.2±11.3, 139±43.1 mg/dl respectively These values are changed to 203±46.9, 43.6±9.5, 160±61.3, 29±11.2, 129±42.9 post-intervention. In the control group, a mean value of total cholesterol, HDL, Triglyceride, VLDL, LDL are 225±49.6, 34.1±6.7, 197±67, 26.6±6.6, 132±42.8.mg/dl respectively, Post intervention these values are 218±45.5, 36.8±6.6, 196±67.3, 26.6±6.7, 127±41.5. It was found that the overall improvement in the lipid profile was more marked in the experimental group. Soybean has high-quality protein but low in saturated fats and devoid of cholesterol and containing isoflavones bioactive compound. It appears that soybean may be an effective intervention in CAD and act as lipids lowering agent.
