A Research Study on Role of Pharmacist in Creation of Awareness on Quitting of Smoking: A Public Health Related Project

Abstract


Aim: To Study on role of pharmacist in creation of awareness on quitting of Smoking. Objectives: The main objectives are to reduce cancers which are mainly responsible due to smoking addiction such as to prevent lung cancers, oral and throat cancers, create awareness among particularly among teenagers and youth how to get rid of smoking addiction and its long-term deleterious effects of addiction. Methodology: (1) Study Design: It is a prospective observational study. (2) Study Period: The Present study was conducted for a period of six months from August 2018 to January 2019. (3) Study Site: The Present study was conducted in Gautham College of Pharmacy, R.T. Nagar, Bangalore, Karnataka, India. (4) Sample Size:120 Students. (5) Source of Data: All the required data was collected from patients through personal interview and Counselling Forms. (6) Inclusion Criteria: Patients with aging above 18 years and are willing to participate in the study. (7) Exclusion Criteria: Patients who are not willing to participate in the study. Method of Collection of Data: The necessary information was collected by interviewing the patients and parents using the personal interview and Counseling Forms. Discussion: Gender-wise distribution of students of which male were 73 with percentage of 60.833 and female were 47 with percentage of 39.166 out of total 120 with percentage of 100,age-wise distribution of male students of which in between 18–25 were 34 with percentage of 46.575,25–30 were 18 with percentage of 24.675,and30–35were 21with percentage of 28.767 and 73 out of total 120 with percentage of 100.andage-wise distribution of female students of which in between 18–25 were 29 with percentage of 61.702,25–30 were 11 with percentage of 23.404,and30–35were 7with percentage of 14.893 and 47 out of total 120 with percentage of 100., number and percentage of students found addicted to smoking during counseling among them 28 were females with percentage of 33.33 and 56 were males with percentage of 66.66 of total 84 with 100 percentage and number and percentage of students to whom counseling was done on how to quit smoking and got positive feedback among them 25 were females with percentage of 33.33 and 50 were males with percentage of 66.66 of total 75 with 100 percentage. Conclusion: The present study concludes that nowadays number of teenagers as well are youth are fully addicting to smoking as a health care professionals its part of our duty to educate public in and our surroundings so we conducted this study to assess the actual role of pharmacist in quitting smoking, the P-value is0.001 which states the present study is highly significant hence we found the pharmacist plays a key role in educating public on health education.
