Blue Green Algal Species Isolated from the Paddy Field Soil of T. Athikarai, Sivagangai, Tamil Nadu

Abstract


Algae are photosynthetic organisms grouped under thallophytes of lower plants which grow well in water and on moisturized soil. There are different types of algae belong to different classes such as Chlorophyceae, Bacillariophyceae, Xanthophyceae, Phaeophyceae, Rhodophyceae and Cyanophyceae. Among these cyanophyceae members are more important in agriculture for enhancing the nitrogen assimilation in crop field. Since they are applied as a biofertilizer in such field. In the present study, soil samples collected from the T. Athikarai, Sivaganagai district, Tamil Nadu. Cyanobacterial species were isolated from the T. Athikarai soil by using BG11 and CHU10 media under aseptic condition. pure form is important step for his or her efficient use as biofertilizer. They were identified as Microcystis and Oscillatoria spp. Then these organisms were subcultured continuously for checking the purity of culture maintenance.
