A Critical Appraisal on VastiKarma—A Healing Therapy in Pediatric Age Group w.s.r. to Enteric Nervous System
Abstract
Vasti is the most important therapy among Panchakarma therapies. Acharya Kashyapa said Vasti as Shishu-sneha and also said that Vasti works like Amrita for both children and adults. Vasti is the best and authentic treatment for Vata Vikara’s and also said as Ardha-Chikitsha. Nervous system disorders especially motor system disorders are considered as Vata Vikara’s, as “Vagati-gandhanyoiti Vata” means gatior movement function is maintained by Vata. Vasti gives significant results in nervous system disorders of pediatric age group such as cerebral palsy, Guillain-Barre (GB) syndrome, epilepsy, etc. It also helps in getting rid of delayed development caused by number of genetic disorders such as Down’s syndrome. Vasti not only helps in management of nervous system disorders, but also helps in better growth and development of child. Yapana and MatraVasti are very well tolerated by children’s and these can be given according to age and retention time of Vasti in individual child. Vasti not only stimulates the central nervous system, but it also stimulates the enteric nervous system and paraneurons. In developing age group children, it also helps in better myelination of the brain. The present review study was focused on reported information related to VastiKarma and its role in pediatric age group.
