Screening for Ovarian Malignancies in Low Risk Population, Is It Worthwhile?

Anupama Rajanbabu, D.K. Vijaykumar

Abstract

Despite the advances in chemotherapy and surgery, the prognosis in advanced epithelial ovarian cancer remains bleak. A better understanding of the disease biology obtained in the last decade led to the hope that early detection can be done. Large population studies were undertaken around the world in low risk population to see if screening can detect ovarian cancer in early stages and thus decrease the disease related mortality. In this paper we are giving a brief review about the various trials published in the last decade about ovarian cancer screening.
