Abstract

The present study was aimed to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme (STP) on knowledge regarding postmenopausal bleeding (PMB) and early detection of endometrial cancer among postmenopausal women in the selected area. In view of the nature of the problem under study and to accomplish the objectives of the study, evaluative approach was found to be appropriate to describe the knowledge of postmenopausal women regarding PMB and early detection of endometrial cancer. In this study one group pre-test post-test quasi experimental design was used. Samples selected for the present study comprised of postmenopausal women in the selected area. Sampling technique was non-probability convenient sampling; sample size was 60 postmenopausal women; tool used was a structured knowledge questionnaire. Result of the study showed that most of the samples (73.33%) were in the age group of 56–60 years. According to their age of menarche majority of samples (60%) were in the age group of 12–14 years and about 40% were in the age group of 15–17 years. The mean post-test knowledge score (x2= 14.83) was apparently higher than the mean pre-test knowledge score (x1=7.7) suggesting that the STP was effective. The obtained Chi-square value regarding selected demographic variable was significant. Therefore, the research hypothesis was accepted concluding that the STP was effective in improving the knowledge of postmenopausal women at the selected area.
