CASE REPORT ON GIANT GALL STONE

Abstract


Gallstones (cholelithiasis) are hardened deposits of digestive fluids that can form in our gallbladder. The term cholelithiasis may refer to the presence of stone in Gall Bladder or to the diseases caused by gallstone. Most people with gallstone disease (about 30%) never have symptoms. Incidence gradually increases after 21yrs of age and it reaches the peak in 5th and 6th decade of life and rarely found in Pre-Pubertal age Group. Women are affected more often than men in ratio of 4:1. It is said that gallstone is more common in fatty fertile female of forty i.e. 4Fs.Ultrasonography revealed a prevalence of 6.20% which was 4.15% more in females (5.59%) than males (1.99%).Gallstones ranges from as small as a granule of sand to as large as golf ball. People who experience symptoms from their gallstone usually require gallbladder surgery. Gallstones with diameter of more than 5cm are rare. We report a case of a 45yrs old Female suffering from biliary colic which had a previous history of acute attack 1 month back got admitted in Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College & Hospital, AMU, Aligarh who underwent open elective cholecystectomy under Spinal Anaesthesia (SA). On exploration a stone of size 44 mm long and 18mm wide which weighed about 50 gms is present in the gallbladder, then gallbladder was removed and patient got relieved from symptoms and was discharged on 8th post-operative day with Clean and Healthy wound.
