The Use of Retroperitoneum: Making A Wrapping for Splenic Salvage in Traumatic Splenic Rupture
Keywords:
Splenic salvage, traumatic splenic, retroperitoneum, splenectomy, anesthesisAbstract
Objective: We have studied to verify indication of the splenic “wrapping” by using of retroperitoneum for splenic salvage in traumatic splenic rupture and reduce the operation time for splenic salvage. Methods: We have studied splenic wrapping for splenic salvage by using retroperitoneum instead of absorbable mesh in traumatic splenic rupture. Results: During the 4 years study period, 97 patients with splenic injuries were evaluated. According to efficacy of our new splenic wrapping technique for salvage, splenic salvage was successful in 71 patients, for a 73.2% salvage rate. In those whose spleens were wrapped using retroperitoneum, splenic salvage was successful in 36 patients (72.0%) and in control group successful rate was 74.5%. Salavage rate had no significant difference between two groups. On average, it took 60.1 and 87.1 min to perform splenic salvage operation using retroperitoneum and absorbable mesh, respectively. Splenic salvage technique using retroperitoneum required less time than traditional technique using absorbable mesh. Conclusion: Splenic wrapping technique by using of retroperitoneum for splenic salvage in splenic rupture can significantly reduce the time of operation and anesthesis. And it is both a safer and more efficacious than absorbable splenic wrapping method of preservation.References
