Ashfaq ul Hassan, Sabha Yaseen

Abstract

Background and Aims: Nerve plexuses are important for surgeons, anatomists, anesthesiologists and critical care physicians. Variations in the formation and branching pattern of the brachial plexus are common and have important clinical significance. The aim of our recent study was to evaluate the anatomical variations in brachial plexus and also find any new anatomical variations in brachial plexus roots, trunks, divisions and cords. There are many lesions in brachial plexus occurring at the time of birth, during trauma, excessive traction and a proper knowledge is very essential for the physicians as well as surgeons. Methods: This study included thorough dissection of 30 brachial plexuses which belonged to 15 cadavers (male:female ratio =13:02) with age range of 20–60 years, obtained from the Department of Anatomy, SKIMS Medical College, Shahdan Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr VRK Medical College Hyderabad and following standard guidelines. The study includes new cadaveric material procured recently as well.
