Propylparaben is a natural substance found in many plants and some insects; although it is manufactured synthetically for the industrial applications in field of cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, foods and so on. It is used as a preservative, typically found in many water-based cosmetics, commercially available pharmaceuticals and foods items, such as creams, lotions, shampoos, bath products, tablets, baked food products and so on, to reduce the activity of microorganisms. Parabens have also been detected in tissues of human body and bodily fluids. Parabens can be absorbed through the skin cell ducts. The continuous intake of paraben is a possible concern, why, because studies have shown that parabens have a weak estrogen-like property which leads to breast cancer in the woman. Estrogen leads to development of breast cancer cells. Nowadays, new research has detected the presence of paraben esters in 99% of breast cancer tissues sampled from females. One of the studies suggests that when 40 women who were under the treatment of primary breast cancer, were examined, it was found that in 60% of the cases, there was presence of different esters.
