Competency in neonatal resuscitation is critical in the delivery rooms and neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) to ensure the safety and health of neonates. Each year, millions of babies do not breathe immediately at birth and among them the majority requires basic neonatal resuscitation. Neonatal resuscitation is effective only when health professionals have sufficient knowledge and skills. The mean scores of knowledge and skills were assessed on neonatal resuscitation protocol. Results were analysed by using chi-square test to find the association.

Fifty nursing personnel participated in the present study. The overall mean scores of knowledge of subjects were 11 (SD-4.1827), whereas the mean scores of skill were 27.28 (SD 1.4578, CV 5.3429).

The knowledge and skill levels of nursing personnel were substandardized. There was significant difference in knowledge and skill score after teaching. Continuous teaching and training on neonatal resuscitation for nursing personnel should be emphasized.
