Abstract

Eczema is a chronic, inflammatory skin disorder which usually develops in early childhood. In spite of intensive investigations, the causes of eczema remain unclear, but are likely to be multifactorial in nature. In conventional system of medicine, it is commonly called as eczema or dermatitis. Eczema is a type of dermatitis, and these terms are often used synonymously. It is characterized by itching, soreness, and variable degrees of signs including dryness, erythema, excoriation, exudation, fissuring, hyperkeratosis, lichenification, papulation, scaling and vesiculation and can affect any person irrespective of age and sex. Among various measures of eczema and dermatitis management, which improves barrier function and relieves itchiness, may be helpful to reduce the need for topical steroid use and therefore should be used as a basic or standard medical treatment.
