Scientific Understanding of Ama Garbhsrava

Abstract

Amagarbhsrava is one of the most misunderstood and misinterpreted concepts of Ayurveda. There is very little reference material found in Ayurvedic texts about Amagarbhsrava. It is mentioned in sutra rupa a pratyakheya type of abortion with the association of Ama. So the concept of Amagarbhsrava needs clarification in the light of today’s modern concept of abortion. Some consider it first-trimester abortion when there is not well-formed body part of fetus and fetus is in the form of liquid. But by considering the viewpoint of Tikakara this notion proves to be wrong. So misunderstanding regarding Amagarbhsrava requires clarity. The present paper is an attempt to clarify the concept of Amagarbhsrava in the present era.
