“A Descriptive study to assess the age-related problems among elderly people residing in Village Dhianpura (Punjab).”
Abstract
Aim of the study: The aim of present study was to assess the age-related problem in elderly people. Background: Aging is a developmental phenomenon of bringing along a number of changes in the physical, psychological and social condition. As the age increases many elderly people face lot of the problems related to health which includes physical, mental and social health. This is the stage of life in which person depends on others directly or indirectly. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted to assess the age-related problems among elderly people residing in village Dhianpura (Punjab). A descriptive research design was used to carry out the study. A total of 50 elderly people were included as sample. Convenience sampling technique was used to select the sample from target population. Data were collected from the selected sample by using checklist on age-related problems. A formal and written permission was taken from Principal and Sarpanch of village Dhianpura (Punjab) and informed verbal consent was taken form study subjects after explaining the purpose of study. Confidentiality was maintained while collecting the data. Collected data were analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistics. Result: Finding of the study reveals that, as per physical problems 30 (60%) subjects had vision problem, 26 (52%) hearing problem, 15 (30%) breathing problem, 30 (60%) walking difficulty, 15 (30%) feel insomnia, 25 (50%) anxiety or increase heart rate, 10 (20%) had no control over urination, 15 (30%) not able to bath self completely, 13 (26%) not able to walk down step in dim light, 15 (30%) not able to travel alone. The study reveals that, as per psychosocial problems, 20 (40%) feel depressed when sit alone, 17 (34%) feel people were not interested to talk with anyone.
